Friends of COCO
Dear Friends:
As most of you
know, COCO is a private not-for-profit corporation that has been
providing day services to adults with disabilities since 1978.
We pride ourselves in offering quality work and leisure
opportunities to the residents of Cheshire, Waterbury, Wolcott,
Meriden, Bristol, Southington, Terryville, Watertown, Plantsville,
Thomaston, Prospect, and Wallingford. COCO has seen significant
increases in its program participant base from this time last year
and, as we continue to grow, we want our clients to have the very
best we can provide.
It has been a
long year in many ways for each of us, whether it’s the surging
gas prices, overwhelming real estate market, or the significant
headcount reductions being made at work. Not-for-profits are
feeling the pinch from so many different angles, whether their
grants are being cut in amount or they are not receiving as many
donations. COCO is no different than the majority. Now more
than ever we are experiencing financial restrictions due to the
lack of cash flow, while continuing to provide a high quality
service to our clients.
Our struggle this
year has been adapting to a new “Fee for Service” type of
payment system. Instead of receiving a consistent monthly
payment for each individual we serve, we now have to bill a
separate entity for each of the participants based upon their
attendance. When an individual is absent, COCO does not
receive payment for this person but still incurs the costs of
providing staffing to meet the client’s needs.
We do understand
as an organization that you have so many choices for your
donations, but please consider us this time. Even if you
give $1, $5, or $100, each tax-deductible amount will enable us to
provide additional programs and opportunities for our participants
from the operating fund which we are looking to grow with this
Fall Campaign.
Sincerely,
Christian M.
